Naviance

NAVIANCE™ is a comprehensive college and career readiness resource that helps students align their strengths and interests to post-secondary goals, improve their short- and long-term academic outcomes and connect learning to life. This grade 9-12 resource, free to Edina Public Schools students and families, provides personalized academic planning, self-discovery, career exploration, and college and career preparation.

What Will you Find on Naviance?

College Lookup and Visit Schedule
College Search - enter criteria such as size, location, cost, specific majors or athletic programs. Students can produce a list of colleges that meet their criteria.
Scattergrams - graphical view of application outcomes
Senior Transcripts - Able to view when your transcript/application were sent to colleges.
Letters of Recommendation - Seniors will be able to view if the letters have been submitted.
Scholarships - Click Colleges - Scholarship list or National Scholarship Search
Enrichments Programs - Click Colleges - Enrichment Programs

Post-Secondary Events & College Visits

The college visit list is available to view on Naviance. Students can sign up to attend a Virtual Visit in Naviance through the Portal. You may log-in as a guest. On the left hand side of the page, click on "Visit Schedule."

Parents have their own log-in code. Send an email to naviance@edinaschools.org with your name, email, student name and grade to get a login.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

CSS PROFILE

The CSS Profile is the College Board’s financial aid application that about 260 mostly private colleges and universities, use for their undergraduate admissions. In addition to filing the FAFSA, the CSS Profile application is required for participating schools.

All PROFILE schools use the FAFSA to determine which of their applicants will qualify for federal and/or state financial aid. Most public and private colleges and universities also rely upon the FAFSA to determine who is eligible for the institutions’ own need-based financial aid. The PROFILE schools, however, want to dig deeper than the FAFSA allows when assessing who qualifies for money from their own institution.

Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP)

The Midwest Student Exchange Program enables residents of Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Nebraska to enroll in designated institutions and programs at reduced tuition levels outside of their home state. Some schools in the province of Manitoba also participate. The Midwest Student Exchange Program is an interstate initiative established by the Midwestern Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to increase educational opportunities for students in its member states. This program enables residents at reduced tuition (150% of resident tuition) levels. The basic core college prep courses apply for many of these schools' requirements.

Find a list of scholarships in Naviance Student under the colleges tab on a link called "Scholarship List." This list is updated weekly with active scholarships and should be checked regularly by students. It includes local, regional, national and some college specific scholarships.

College Specific Scholarships

Seniors should make sure that they have applied to every available scholarship at the colleges they are considering. Some colleges will award scholarships automatically when students apply. However, other scholarships from colleges will require an additional application. It is a good idea to check with college admissions or financial aid offices to see if there are other scholarship applications to complete.

RaiseMe

RaiseMe is a resource that helps students explore colleges, build a portfolio and get rewarded for their achievements both in and outside of the classroom. If a student follows a college, and puts an accomplishment into their portfolio, the college may reward the student with a micro-scholarship that can build through the years. The students will only get the scholarship if they apply and are accepted to the college.

NCAA Registration

Students may register at any time, but we recommend that they register during their sophomore year. The registration website is www.eligibilitycenter.org. The NCAA Eligibility Center will evaluate a student’s academic credentials once the following information has been received, and the student has had his/her status requested by an NCAA member institution:

Completed online registration
Fee payment
SAT and/or ACT test score on file from the respective testing agency
Transcript(s) from all schools or programs attended

Test Score Submission

For a student's academic certification to be processed, the student must have ACT or SAT scores submitted to the Eligibility Center directly from the testing agency using the code 9999. Test scores on a high school transcript cannot be used. Students may take the ACT or the SAT an unlimited number of times prior to full-time collegiate enrollment, and the best score will be used in the final academic certification. Test scores are matched to the student's Eligibility Center account by name, date of birth and address.

Vocational Trade Schools

Trade schools in Minnesota prepare learners for high-wage, high-demand careers in diverse sectors. While vocational education prepares students for jobs in both traditional trade positions such as plumbing, auto mechanic, and electrician, and more modern vocations involving robotics, cybersecurity, and engineering.

Career Technical Education

Transcript Request

The legal record or proof of your high school education is called an official transcript. You will need this when entering college, job opportunities, identification replacement, etc.

NOTE: The release of a student transcript requires a signed request from the student (or the parent/legal guardian if the student is under 18 years old). A telephone call will not release your records. There is a $5.00 fee per transcript. Your check or money order may be made payable to Edina High School.

The official transcript will be stamped with the high school seal and must be kept in the sealed envelope for the transcript to remain official.

Special Education records including IEP's evaluations and assessments are located in Special Education Services at the District Office. Please call 952-848-4959.

If you are a former student/graduate that attended Edina High School, you may do the following:

Complete the Transcript Request Form. Please fill out all necessary information accurately (Name at time of graduation, date of birth, year of graduation) on the form. Please indicate if you would like your ACT/SAT test scores included with the transcript. Include payment of $5.00 per transcript. Your check or money order may be made payable to Edina High School. Mail the completed request to Edina High School attn. Counseling Office, 6754 Valley View Road, Edina, MN 55439. Transcript requests are usually processed within 48 hours from receipt of the completed form and payment.
A transcript may also be obtained by picking up the transcript in person at the Edina. Please call 952-848-3131 for summer office availability. During the school year the office is open from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The $5.00 payment per transcript may be made by check/money order or cash.

Replacement Diploma Request

The cost for ordering a replacement diploma is $30.00 for 1 diploma. Please send the Replacement Diploma Order Form, and the payment in the form of a check or money order (no cash) made payable to Edina High School, to the high school. All orders are submitted to the diploma company once each month, usually on the 15th. Please allow three to five weeks for delivery from the date the order is placed with the diploma company. The diploma replacement is not a photocopy. It is a reprint of the diploma.

Military Academies

For students who would like to experience a military environment while getting a first-class education, these 5 service academies offer an outstanding education and full 4-year scholarship including fully paid tuition, books, room and board, and medical and dental care. Admission into these academies is highly competitive. The admissions criteria include:

Outstanding high school academic performance
Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)
Athletics and extracurricular activities
Leadership experience and community involvement
Congressional letter of recommendation (not required by the Coast Guard Academy)

It is important to understand all of the requirements early so you have time to accomplish all the necessary components. Graduates of all 5 academies receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are commissioned officers in their respective Branch. In all cases, there is a service obligation of a minimum of 5 years. In the United States, there are five military training academies, which are sometimes collectively known as the “Five-Pointed Star.” If you’re unsure which branch of the military to pursue, you can explore the history, admissions procedures, and eligibility requirements for each at their respective websites.

The United States Military Academy is known as West Point. It is a four-year, coeducational military academy whose “cadets” graduate as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army.
The United States Naval Academy is often referred to as USNA, Annapolis, or Navy. It grants bachelor’s degrees to students based on academic, militaristic, and athletic performance.
The United States Air Force Academy is the youngest of the five academies, and its graduates are commissioned second lieutenants in the U.S. Air Force.
The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, offers eight majors and, like its four counterparts, requires graduates to complete five years of active duty service.
The United States Merchant Marine Academy trains “midshipmen” in marine engineering, maritime law, and other subjects related to military and civilian sea transport.
